Just ask the people at Vari-Lite in Dallas, Texas, manufacturer of specialty exhibit and show lighting fixtures.  Desperate to make a trade show deadline for a new product introduction, they came to Northern States Metals with an idea, some rough drawings, and a stack of "no quotes" from extruders who swore it could not be done.  The overall size of 13" by 15" and tolerances combined to make the fixture head enclosure a true challenge.  But the Northern States Metals team worked closely with Vari-Lite purchasing and design staffs to first make the impossible possible, and then to make it plausible from a cost and turnaround perspective.  They designed a snap-together assembly involving three dies and five extrusions welded together, with a unique slide out panel for bulb replacement and maintenance.

Everything had to be perfect for this project to come together.  There was no margin for error.  Thanks to meticulous planning, everything did go perfectly, and the head enclosures were quickly extruded, fabricated, assembled, welded, flawlessly powder-coated and delivered....ON TIME!
